Sometimes I get sucked into the internet…. almost literally. I lose myself for very long periods of time. I hate it, so it is something I’m going to work on changing. Currently, this whole mess of flags and legalization of gay marriage has been sucking me in. I enjoy reading what other people’s thoughts are on the subject and the “banter,” although most of it isn’t cohesive and is very repetitive. At the risk of being one of those people, I sorta do want to write about it. I had a conversation with my sister on the subject, and that helped prompt this as well.
I’m a Christ follower, and being so, I do not believe in same sex marriages, or relationships for that matter. I believe marriage (Biblical marriage) is between one man and one woman. God create us in His image. He doesn’t make mistakes. He crafted out very souls!! I believe that the world has so fallen into sin that sometimes, out fleshly, sin ridden bodies have a desire to be with someone of the same sex. Sure, I believe that they are born this way. I don’t believe it is a choice. What I do believe, however, is that it is a choice whether we act on those desires. Just as it is a choice whether we have an affair in our marriage, or choose to look at porn. But you know what? I think that, as a believer, through steadfast prayer, help from the church, and daily devotions that God can change the heart and desires of people.
Now, as far as the internet goes, I’m considered “close minded” because I believe this way. People don’t seem to be able to understand that not everyone is going to have the same opinion and that’s okay, but now that I have stated where I stand, I in no way try to judge the individuals who are this way. I have worked with several homosexuals in the past both in the food industry and in child care and have had no problem with them. Never once did I shy away from communicating with them because of their sexual preference. Never once did I refuse to hang out with them outside of the work place because of the sexual preference. You know why? Because the Bible tells us to love one another:
“…love covers over a multitude of sins.”
“…There is no commandment greater than these.”
I completely understand that there are Christians out there that do not handle situations in love. Fine. We’ve known this forever. But the tables are turning. Christians are now the ones being bashed by unbelievers before we even get a word out. After this law passed, I saw more negativity and hate by unbelievers and pro-marriage equality persons than Christians. I read many, many outstanding posts written by Christians that are saying the exact same thing I am with love and responded to with hate. I wouldn’t be being honest if I didn’t say it made my blood boil a little bit. It’s not fair. BUT… you guys listen… this is good:
‘For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.’
No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:35-39
I could go on, but man… ‘rejoice and be glad, for your reward in great in heaven.’
As Christians, we are sad to see how far our country has fallen, but we should be rejoicing! The day of the Lord is ever drawing closer. These are the times we need to stand firm.
Genesis 6:13 tells us that in Noah’s day the “earth was filled with violence.”
And in Jude 1:7 it says that in Lot’s day, Sodom and Gomorrah had given itself over to “fornication and strange flesh”.
There is only so much we can control, so why stress out and be filled with unrighteous anger at things out of our control? Rejoice in what we have; love one another. Be Christ-like. Remember that sin is sin. Your sin is the same as their sin. What will judgement reward you but hate and bitterness, not only to you, but to all who carry the title:
